". . . You declare, my  friend, that you do not hate the Jews, you are merely
'anti-Zionist.' And I  say, let the truth ring forth from the high mountain
tops, let it echo  through the valleys of God's green earth: When people
criticize Zionism, they  mean Jews--this is God's own truth.

"Antisemitism, the hatred of the  Jewish people, has been and remains a blot
on the soul of mankind. In this we  are in full agreement. So know also this:
anti-Zionist is inherently  antisemitic, and ever will be so.

"Why is this? You know that Zionism is  nothing less than the dream and ideal
of the Jewish people returning to live  in their own land. The Jewish people,
the Scriptures tell us, once enjoyed a  flourishing Commonwealth in the Holy
Land. From this they were expelled by  the Roman tyrant, the same Romans who
cruelly murdered Our Lord. Driven from  their homeland, their nation in
ashes, forced to wander the globe, the Jewish  people time and again suffered
the lash of whichever tyrant happened to rule  over them.

"The Negro people, my friend, know what it is to suffer the  torment of
tyranny under rulers not of our choosing. Our brothers in Africa  have
begged, pleaded, requested--DEMANDED the recognition and realization of  our
inborn right to live in peace under our own sovereignty in our own  country.

"How easy it should be, for anyone who holds dear this  inalienable right of
all mankind, to understand and support the right of the  Jewish People to
live in their ancient Land of Israel. All men of good will  exult in the
fulfillment of God's promise, that his People should return in  joy to
rebuild their plundered land. This is Zionism, nothing more, nothing  less.

"And what is anti-Zionist? It is the denial to the Jewish people of
fundamental right that we justly claim for the people of Africa and  freely
accord all other nations of the Globe. It is discrimination against  Jews, my
friend, because they are Jews. In short, it is  antisemitism.

"The antisemite rejoices at any opportunity to vent his  malice. The times
have made it unpopular, in the West, to proclaim openly a  hatred of the
Jews. This being the case, the antisemite must constantly seek  new forms and
forums for his poison. How he must revel in the new masquerade!  He does not
hate the Jews, he is just 'anti-Zionist'!

"My friend, I do  not accuse you of deliberate antisemitism. I know you feel,
as I do, a deep  love of truth and justice and a revulsion for racism,
prejudice, and  discrimination. But I know you have been misled--as others
have been--into  thinking you can be 'anti-Zionist' and yet remain true to
these heartfelt  principles that you and I share. Let my words echo in the
depths of your  soul: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews--make no
mistake about  it."

"... Tu déclares, mon ami,  que tu ne hais pas les Juifs, que tu es
seulement antisioniste. A cela je  dis, que la vérité sonne du sommet de la
haute montagne, que ses échos  résonnent dans les vallées vertes de la terre
de Dieu : Quand des gens  critiquent le sionisme, ils pensent Juifs, et ceci
est la vérité même de  Dieu.

" L'antisémitisme, la haine envers le peuple juif, a été et reste  une tache
sur l'âme de l'humanité. Nous sommes pleinement d'accord sur ce  point.
Alors sache aussi cela : antisioniste signifie de manière inhérente
antisémite, et il en sera toujours ainsi.

Pourquoi en est-il ainsi?  Tu sais que le Sionisme n'est rien moins que le
rêve et l'idéal du peuple  juif de retourner vivre sur sa propre terre. Le
peuple juif, nous disent les  Ecritures, vécut en union florissante sur la
Terre Sainte, sa patrie. Ils en  furent expulsés par le tyran de Rome, les
mêmes Romains qui assassinèrent si  cruellement Notre Seigneur. Chassé de sa
patrie, sa nation en cendres, le  peuple juif fut forcé d'errer sur le
globe. Encore et encore, le peuple juif  souffrit aux mains de chaque tyran
qui vint à régner sur lui.

"Le  peuple noir, sait, mon ami, ce que signifie souffrir les tourments de
la  tyrannie, sous un joug que l'on n'a pas choisi. Nos frères en Afrique
ont  supplié, plaidé, demandé, EXIGE la reconnaissance et la réalisation de
leur  droit naturel de vivre en paix sous leur propre souveraineté, dans
leur  propre pays.



Pour quiconque chérit ce droit inaliénable de toute  l'humanité, il devrait
être si facile de comprendre, de soutenir le droit du  Peuple Juif à vivre
sur l'antique Terre d'Israël. Tous les hommes de bonne  volonté se
réjouiront de la réalisation de la promesse de dieu, que son  Peuple
retourne dans la joie sur la terre qui lui a été volée. C'est cela le
Sionisme, rien de plus, rien de moins.

Et qu'est l'antisionisme ?  C'est le déni au peuple juif d'un droit
fondamental que nous réclamons à  juste titre pour le peuple d'Afrique et
accordons librement à toutes les  nations de la terre. C'est de la
discrimination envers les Juifs, mon ami,  parce qu'ils sont Juifs. En un
mot, c'est de  l'antisémitisme.

L'antisémite se réjouit de chaque occasion qui lui est  donnée d'exprimer sa
malveillance. L'époque a rendu impopulaire, à l'Ouest,  de proclamer
ouvertement sa haine des Juifs. Ceci étant le cas, l'antisémite  doit à
chaque fois inventer de nouvelles formes et de nouveaux forums pour  son
poison. Combien il doit se réjouir de la nouvelle mascarade! Il ne hait  pas
les Juifs, il est seulement antisioniste.

Mon ami, je ne t'accuse  pas d'antisémitisme délibéré. Je sais que tu
ressens, comme je le fais, un  profond amour pour la vérité et la justice,
et une révulsion envers le  racisme, les préjugés, la discrimination. Mais
je sais que tu as été trompé,  comme d'autres l'ont été, en te faisant
croire que tu pouvais être  antisioniste tout en restant fidèle aux
principes que nous partageons toi et  moi du fond du coeur. Que mes paroles
sonnent dans les profondeurs de ton  âme : quand les gens critiquent le
sionisme, ne te trompe pas, ils pensent  les Juifs. "
